1. What master's degree can I use my Health Science certification courses toward?
The University of North Texas offers a Master of Education degree for Health Science candidates. The Master of Education is a thirty-six semester hour program. It requires thirty hours in the major and six hours in the minor. This degree is intended for those participants who have an undergraduate degree in Career and Technical Education or closely related field. 2. Is there a thesis requirement with the master's degree?
There is no thesis requirement with the Master of Education degree. There is a master's level project. The master's level project is started in the research course ATTD 5480. In ATTD 5480 a mini proposal is written and in ATTD 5720 the actual research study is conducted and presented.
3. How do I make application for the master's degree?
Application to the master's degree can be done in two different ways. First you can fill out an application at the University of North Texas, office of the Graduate School and complete the application form. The Graduate School will be looking for an undergraduate GPA of 2.6 overall or 3.0 on the last sixty hours. The second way that one can apply is to go on-line at, www.tsgs.unt.edu. Regardless of which way you apply, you must submit your application fee of $50.00 and official transcripts for evaluation for admission.
4. Can I complete my master's degree 100% on-line?
You can come pretty close to completing 100% of your master's degree courses on-line. Although some of the courses are what we call web enhanced, meaning that there are some mandatory meetings associated with the courses. For example, ATTD 5440, Facilitations Skills, has five or six mandatory meetings. There are usually four or five follow up meetings in which students demonstrate their facilitation skills through a series of activities. There are a couple of other courses that require one mandatory meeting and a series of two to three seminar meetings.
5. I'm thinking about doing a master's degree but I am still undecided. What should I do?
You can make application at the University of North Texas Graduate School and on your application your can mark your major as undecided. You can take twelve semester hours at the graduate level before you must declare a major. You will need to submit your GRE scores for admission to the Graduate School before you can declare a major.
6. Will I have an advisor for my master's program?
You will be assigned to an official advisor. Your advisor will work with you to work up an unofficial degree plan and to submit an official degree plan once you have met all of the admission requirements for the master's degree at the University of North Texas.

8. How many hours can I transfer into the master's degree plan at the University of North Texas?
The maximum number of hours that you can transfer into the graduate master's degree program is six (6) hours. These must be taken at the 5000 level at an accredited institution. Please contact your advisor for more information about transferability of courses.
9. How do I make changes to my degree plan?
Once your official degree plan is filed, all changes must be done with advance approval by your advisor. This is done for your protection so that you do not complete a course that cannot be used on your degree plan. Your advisor will file the appropriate change in degree plan form with the Graduate School.
10. Is there a written exam at the end of the master's degree?
There are no written or qualifying examinations associated with the Master of Education degree. The culminating experience is the small research project that is completed as part of ATTD 5720, the exit seminar.
The exit seminar, ATTD 5720, is the capstone experience for the master's degree program. It is your opportunity to present your knowledge and skills through the completion of a small research project. Your research is presented to other currently enrolled master's degree students or other graduate students and faculty in the Department of Learning Technologies. This is typically the last course before graduation.
12. How long do I have to complete my master's degree?
Students have six (6) years to complete their master's degree from the date of the first course that's applied to the degree plan. Some students will transfer credits that they've taken from another institution towards the master's degree and therefore the “clock” on the six year time table begins from the date of the first course taken that's used on your degree plan.
13. Is there a residency requirement for the master's degree?
There is no residency requirement associated with the Master of Education degree at the University of North Texas.
14. What are leveling courses and when are they required?
The Master of Education degree has a very specific purpose. Those individuals who enter the master's degree program in Applied Technology, Training & Development can come from a wide variety of fields. Leveling courses are established so that the playing field can be leveled for those students who do not have an undergraduate degree in Career and Technical Education or closely related field. For example, those individuals who might have graduated with an undergraduate degree in Career and Technology Education , including applied health, nursing, etc.,would have no leveling courses to do if they are pursuing a Master of Education degree.
15. What are the GRE requirements for admission?
There is no minimum GRE required for admission. Contact the Graduate School at www.tsgs.unt.edu or 940-565-2383 to find the current requirements.
16. Can I attend UNT without my GRE scores?
Yes, if you mark your application as undecided, you may take up to twelve semester hours before you must declare a major and submit your GRE scores. If you indicate on your application that your major is going to be Applied Technology, Training and Development, they will permit you to go one semester before you must submit your GRE scores.
17. I've taken the GMAT. Do I need to take the GRE?
You may not have to take the GRE if you've already taken the GMAT. Submit your GMAT scores to the Graduate School for consideration.
